Studio Peeks - Mixed Media Painting

Studio Peeks - Mixed Media Painting Time ... our local store had a 20% discount on Golden Acrylics so treated myself to some transparent colors .. quinachrodine crimson and a couple of yellow hues .. all inspired ...

I am enjoying working in a smaller format again, having played and explored larger canvas formats for a little while
its good to be minute again

a full saturday in the studio , ahhh bliss , my 2 were happily occupied with baking and ayung dragon games and I got a long stretch with the muse..

work in progress.. inspired by a facebook profile picture fronone of my community members " Cindy"  .. loved the way the hands were cradling the chicken :)

taking some of the edges off with a medium grain sandpaper

almost finished ... I think one day I will try and count the millions of layers that go into one of these mixed media paintings ..

The photo does not really do all the layers justed .. this one makes me want to stroke it :) it feels so lush

The Pallant House Gallery is only about 40 minutes from me, really looking foreward to seeing some of Friday Kahlo's artworks in person ..

" ...Frida Kahlo was born in Coyoacán on the southern outskirts of Mexico City in 1907. Her father, Guillermo, was an atheist German immigrant photographer, her mother, Matilde, a fervent Catholic of mixed Spanish and Native American descent from Oaxaca. Frida' s mixed heritage was seen as the undercurrent for the prevailing theme of identity in her work, and her divided loyalties to Mexico and Europe..."

sketchbook peeks

Had fun walking the streets of paris and noticing little fragments that caught my attention .. I do not often get long stretches of time to sketch so many an art journal page ends up being a collections of little fragmented moments in time

whilst Maya enjoyed playing ath a little park outside the Sacre Ceur in Montmatre I sketched a few pen and ink lines ..

ahh nothing like a new introduction to a quaffable wine ...

and sharing breadmaking recipes over the kitchen table ..

Saturday Studio Time

Saturday Studio Time

a new day a new palette, nothing more more satisfying then freshly squeezed paint

trying to recreate my palette started in France ... note to Self " make more detailed notes next time "

my new shelf from the fleamarket .. filled with my artworks in progress

ahh had fun making some backgrounds with leftover paint .. living the square canvas format

put 2 drafting table easels up to work side by side .. love the angle and being able to work on several paintings simultaneously :)

my 2 spent the whole day cooking and delivering snacks and lunch to the studio.. feeling very lucky ..

fun day, hoping for a little more

illustration painting project

I am having fun working on a painting for an illustration project

preliminary sketches working out composition and starting an underpainting layer in van dyke brown

the light is lovely at this time of the year in my little garden studio

working on a slightly raised easel drafting board seems to suit me better than an upright table easel

playing around with finding a suitable sky color palette .. I love Golden Heavybody Acrylic paints but have recently been introduced to Spectrum Acrylics and am quite smitten

adding some underglaze layers with golden fluid acrylics in quinachrodine crimson

and a littke green gold underpainting for skintones

" Sometimes even angels need a little help to fly"

painting process so far :)

hopefully I will get some quiet time in the studio this weekend to work a little more in this painting .. its good to be back in my little garden nook after travelling for what seems like forever
