Monoprinting on Fabric ::: CAPI Textiles Tutorial

Monoprinting on Fabric ::: CAPI Textiles Tutorial

Monoprinting on Fabric - CAPI Textiles Tutorial @milliande.com , Printing on Fabric for Watercolor Print Effects

Monoprinting on Fabric - CAPI Textiles Tutorial @milliande.com , Printing on Fabric for Watercolor Print Effects

:::

For this tutorial I uses highly pigmented watercolour pans
these are NOT washable, so not suitable for fabric items that need to be washed or
come in contact with water

:::

I use my fabric pieces for Art Textiles and Canvas Art that will not be washed

:::

substitute watercolor paints with watersoluble fabric paints to achieve the same effect
most types of fabric paints need to be heat set ( iron) to make them waterfast

Monoprinting on Fabric - CAPI Textiles Tutorial @milliande.com , Printing on Fabric for Watercolor Print Effects

:::

  • on a plastic tray brush on some not too wet watercolor paint
  • the plastic RESISTS the watercolor spreading evenly
  • this is a desired effect

Monoprinting on Fabric - CAPI Textiles Tutorial @milliande.com , Printing on Fabric for Watercolor Print Effects

:::

  • keep adding different watercolors to suit your color scheme
  • swish about with a brush , adding a little water if required
  • playin with drier watercolor and wetter watercolour to get different effects
  • not all needs to be colored as it can be overprinted later

Monoprinting on Fabric - CAPI Textiles Tutorial @milliande.com , Printing on Fabric for Watercolor Print Effects

:::

  • using plain undyed cotton or any other type of natural fabric
  • hold it stretched tight over the plastic palette ( old lids of plastic containers can be used too)
  • let the fabric cloth drop onto the plastic palette with your designs

Monoprinting on Fabric - CAPI Textiles Tutorial @milliande.com , Printing on Fabric for Watercolor Print Effects

:::

  • using your hands gently tap the cloth fabric to let the cool absorb from underneath
  • if you have used a little too much water, the color will smudge and seep to form a single marbled sort of effect loosing much of the detail
  • if just a little water is used quite precise print effects and markmaking designs can be achieved

Monoprinting on Fabric - CAPI Textiles Tutorial @milliande.com , Printing on Fabric for Watercolor Print Effects

:::

  • Here some water has been added n splotches to the watercolor drops
  • the color seeps together when in contact with the surface of the cloth
  • this technique can be fun if splotches patches are spaced further apart so they dont mix too much but still have that soft watercolor effect

Monoprinting on Fabric - CAPI Textiles Tutorial @milliande.com , Printing on Fabric for Watercolor Print Effects

:::

  • here relatively dry watercolor circles have been applied to the plastic palette
  • a little water was on the brush when picking up the pigment but no further water has been added
  • lovely small detail is picked up in the textile print

Monoprinting on Fabric - CAPI Textiles Tutorial @milliande.com , Printing on Fabric for Watercolor Print Effects

:::

  • Here a lot of water was added to the plastic palette and left to smosh together on the fabric cloth
  • being careful not to create mud add cold colors seperately from warm colors to avoid creating muddy browns
  • some areas have been left without water to pick up more detailed print effects at the top of this cloth

Monoprinting on Fabric - CAPI Textiles Tutorial @milliande.com , Printing on Fabric for Watercolor Print Effects

:::

  • this cloth was first treated with a splotched watercolor print , left to dry then a dry watercolor print was added on top of it creating a depth effect on the textiles
  • this technique can also be combined with the texture rubbing technique (see tutorial )
  • working in layers can create beautiful multidimensional markmaking effects on the printed cloth

:::

textil, fibre and cloth reacts quite differently than paper

you can also try this technique using watercolor paper and compare the results to see what you like best

enjoy

I do love the element of surprise and subtle colour ranges

The Veiled Name - Poetic Glimpses

The Veiled Name - Poetic Glimpses

Teased out of an oblivious state of non knowing
perturbed I gaze into the brightness that disperses itself
relentlessly into the amidst

Torn away, shredded fragments remain of a self
that can no longer
deny or agree

Shorn away are the long tresses of braided comfort
no one can hold on to the one
that is not

Longer , the breath tries to scream
longer into the echo
of illusion

A kind of mourning seeps thought the mist of understanding
 connecting the search to the searcher until it dissolves
like acid in the rain

Fog, veil, hidden
what is the name
of this eternal game

What I noticed:

Windows are peculiar things, holes really, sometimes small, sometimes large , always offering a framed view of sorts
if I make a portable window , I can choose my view ...
I can choose to focus on who wanders into my view
my portable view helps me to shut out distractions and relish the minute

with macrophotography the lens becomes my window
and I can choose what I peek at
closely
again

I like windows, I like macro, I like to choose
