Tiny Bases - UnRuly Cloth & Canvas

Tiny Bases - UnRuly Cloth & Canvas

Gathering some white and whiteish fabric and cloth I have here,
noticing that there is not a lot of pure white in my stash but rather what I call off white...

Not quite white,
not quite perfect
Not quite pristine
 not quite clean
 rebellious white
 inclusive white,
 odd white
ODD WHITE
And that is just fine with me

Noticing White right outside my back door

Starting with a little invisible Glue Stitch to connect two tiny bases together , contemplating the concept of whitening

 :::

making whiter
 changing appearances on the surface
when underneath the  exciting patterning becomes the life force of the piece

Adding a little appliqués surface stitch ... one of Jude Hill's sentences truck a resonance

" when you don't measure a circle but draw your own
each one will be slightly different
and turn into more of a stone "

:::

Stone...
I could not resist trying and let myself add an appliquéd "circle" , letting it wander where it wanted to

adding a few stitches
some meandering straight stitch
 some french knots
 some random tuck stitches
 to define its surface

all the while staying alert to observing my emotions
noticing that

I do not like predictable stitches
I do not like  whitest of white
I do not like knowing where I am going

I like
random
unexpected
mysterious
off
odd
White

  1. Ahhh, this thought of yours truly struck a cord with me:

"I do not like knowing where I am going

    I like
    random
    unexpected
    mysterious
    off
    odd"

    1. @Denise it is interesting , isn't it ? I come across so many artists that seem to strive for some degree of predictability yet to me that is completely stifling .. when I dont know where I am going, when I let the erraticness of my creative thought patterns take over I feel at peace with the creation itself ... however it is actually quite a difficult state to accomplish as inevitable I find my brain try's to format my thought .. hmm pondering some more :-)

  3. I like the idea of 'not quite white' and 'rebellious white'. Your integration of inspirational photos, images of your work, thoughts about your practice and the visual pattern of words. It's like a whole meal; satisfying!

Letting work evolve and grow into itself can be a bit scary at first, as there's no certain outcome, but when it all comes together so unexpectedly it's wonderful, and if it doesn't it was still satisfying - for me at least.

    1. @Marianda ... yes " unRuly white, rebellious white really appeals to my notion of non-conformity to preconceived ideas of what is supposed to be the next move ...:-)
