Having arrived back at my beloved Wales a sunny day after a howling storm last night invited some beach investigation. Having played with rusting paper and rusting fabric with eco print methods in my garden, I was keen to see whether the winds had blown any rusted objects marked but the saltwater tides ..and I was not dissapointed
This rusty spray bottle must have been travelling for a while to get those gorgeous rust colours and patterned textures all over … even the plastic slowly took on a rust dye look .. yep , happy to take this
one home to play
Next a very thin sheet of metal , bent in various places that invite some paper to be scrunched under or some fabric to be folded over … another promising candidate for rust dyeing
This looked curios, a kind of implement with a wooden handle and a metal top, but not really identifiable any more as to what purpose it might have served once … accompanied by a nice piece of driftwood covered in rusty nails … bliss ..
this old blue boat plank looked gloriously weathered all by itself , with some orange hues of rust setting it off nicely … it was not too big to carry home either … so Maya got that job :-)
Ahhh if only … this old rusty metal fisherman's trap had lots of turquoise rope entangled into it but the tides had already well buried it into the beach stone ground … no chance of shifting that … but what amazing colour combinations
Take a closer peek here ..
Ohh one of my favourite rusty objects with a circular opening and a hollow threaded metal grid inside… can't wait to eco print some rust textures with that … wonder if it will work as it is not a very even surface, might be better suited to rust fabric that can be folded around or some soft paper … well I
shall experiment .. :-)
Now this is our beach curiosity … nobody really knows what it belongs too and it looks like a mini rusty ufo , or a big ocean liners light , or … or. … however it is heavenly rusted .. I might have to fasten some fabric too it and hope none will disturb it at this time of the year to see what rusty patterns it yields
A close up of all the beach pebbles that have anchored themselves inside over time
do you think if I pull a little harder …NOT ;-) "
what a glorious icy but sunny day ...milliande
